There are so many opportunities! So many more students to reach!
— Michele, 2nd year PhD student in Chemistry
Students Transformed
Michele (pictured below) did not expect God to open her eyes to see her campus as a mission field. Though shy, she agreed to be a student leader in the Graduate Christian Fellowship (GCF) as a Prayer Coordinator. Yet through leading a missional departmental prayer meeting and participating in an evangelistic outreach, God is growing her love for the campus.
"I realize now that God has a lot he wants to do on this campus!"
Michele, a 2nd year PhD student in Chemistry, launched a prayer meeting in the Chemistry department and planned to pray for research to go well, for professors to care for their students, and for students to get along. Yet as she and the other students prayed, God reminded them of how hard it was to be a new chemistry student. So, they prayed for grad students entering the chemistry department. Soon they were praying for the Gospel to be spread in the undergrad dorms!
God answered Michele's prayer for one of her chemistry colleagues from China. This friend shared her struggles and together they saw God turn her situation around. She joined Michele in attending an GCF “Science & Religion” event where a Christian scientist spoke about faith and science. God has given Michele many opportunities to talk with colleagues about her belief in God and her love for science. "I realize now that God has a lot he wants to do on this campus!"
"I expected people not to talk to us because we are a Christian group. Yet people were a lot more open than I expected."
Michele joined other InterVarsity students at an interactive outreach called a "proxe station" (pictured above). Students walking across campus were invited to answer questions about their "bucket list". This led to questions about goals for their spiritual lives. "I expected people not to talk to us because we are a Christian group. Yet people were a lot more open than I expected." One student shared with Michele that she is still searching for her purpose in life. Michele grew in boldness as she participated in the proxe station and is now more equipped to talk about her faith with others. She wanted me to share with you:
